Website Launch
MES are delighted to announce the launch of our brand new website.

Navigating the old site on smartphones and other mobile devices was proving problematic, so to resolve this we have re-launched a more user friendly site.

This rebuild has also given us the opportunity to refresh the content to ensure the many services that we offer are clear and concise. Our meet the team page will allow you to put a face to a voice and we will also be issuing regular updates about our fundraising activities. As ever, we are always keen to get your feedback, so if you have any comments, we’d love to hear from you. Click here to get in touch.

New Part L
The most critical aspect in making sure projects comply with the new Part L energy and carbon targets is to make sure the SAP (residential) or SBEM (commercial) calculations are carried out as early as possible. This should be done before work starts on site, as anything that fixes specification items (such as the amount of floor insulation) restricts the options available if the property does not comply and needs a specification uplift. This specification then needs to be adhered to during construction. Changes should be checked with the SAP/SBEM assessor before being implemented to ensure that they do not adversely affect final compliance.

We would highly recommend you get us on board between the planning and building regulation processes.

Thermal Bridging
Limiting heat loss through thermal bridges is now even more important than in previous iterations of the regulations. We keep abreast of the latest products and details available for use in SAP, and building to a selection of these free details is usually the most cost effective way of limiting thermal bridge heat loss. Where non-standard detailing or construction methods are being used, we can provide advice on detailing for thermal efficiency and, where appropriate, calculate the performance of bespoke details. This can often be more cost effective, even on small developments, than wider ranging specification uplifts.

Consultancy Services
We provide a range of consultancy options to assist clients in finding the most cost effective way of building to the new Part L requirements. Our SAP and SBEM fees always allow for providing a compliant specification as standard but if you’re unsure of how to meet the new requirements then we can help further. As part of our consultancy offering, we can also provide additional calculation iterations showing alternative specifications. In a face to face or online ’webinar’ consultancy meeting, we can look at further options and limitations in detail and allow you more involvement in the process. This is a very popular process used by our clients who want to build in the most cost effective way. To find out more, please click here.
Meet the Team
Andrew Pickersgill

Andrew, or Gilly, as he is affectionately known in the office, is one of our Building Surveyors in the busy Neighbourly Matters team. After graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2013, he joined MES to assist with rights of light and party wall issues. He also deals with Access and Oversail Agreements, as well as Schedules of Condition.

Gilly is a keen fisherman and has represented England at international level. He also finds time for the occasional round of golf (but seems to be strangely drawn to the water hazards). At the time of going to press, Gilly will be on the cusp of becoming a married man!! His wedding to Katherine takes place on February 21st 2015. We wish them both all the very best for the future.
