MES focus on the FOCUS consultancy group We are delighted to announce that we have become part of the Focus Consultancy Group. We will continue to operate as a separate company, however our clients will be able to benefit from the association with Focus Consultants as we will also be able to offer even more of a ‘one-stop’ construction solution through our sister organisation. Alex will continue to lead the MES team and all other personnel within MES stay the same.

What is a BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP)?
BREEAM The duties of a BREEAM Accredited Professional (AP) should not be confused with the role of a BREEAM Assessor. The BREEAM AP is primarily concerned with guiding the design team throughout the various RIBA stages to maximise the required BREEAM rating, whereas the BREEAM Assessor is mainly concerned with reviewing and confirming the attained rating.

At pre-planning stage, the BREEAM AP will seek to identify the sustainability targets and look for the sustainability strengths and challenges of the individual projects. At design stage, these issues will be discussed in detail and written documents will serve as a guideline to achieving these goals and any issues or challenges will be identified, analysed and resolved. At post-construction stage, the BREEAM AP will be available to review progress and help with any issues that arise at an early stage to ensure that these are resolved with minor impact on the overall project and will assist in ensuring compliant and robust evidence is produced.

At all stages, our MES BREEAM AP will bring specialist sustainability knowledge and enthusiasm to the project.

Introducing Tom Reynolds
Introducing Tom Reynolds Tom Reynolds is one of our Directors heading up our Residential Compliance & Building Pathology team. He has a wealth of experience in residential development on all scales, from one-off self-build projects to large 400+ dwelling sites.

Tom is a highly experienced SAP assessor and also accredited to undertake Thermal Bridging modelling. He is also experienced in the PassivHaus energy performance standards and is an accredited Code for Sustainable Homes, EcoHomes and BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment Assessor.

Tom ensures our clients are provided with a highly knowledgeable, cohesive compliance and consultancy service that we believe is second to none.

Out of work, Tom can usually be found with his growing family or working on the latest home improvement project.

The Importance of Energy Statements
Our Planning Matters department is very experienced in providing successful Energy Statements for all types of developments to support planning applications.

It is now a common planning requirement for an Energy Statement to be submitted alongside a planning application. This demonstrates how the proposed development intends to improve upon the minimum standards required by Building Regulations.

An Energy Statement should follow a set of logical steps in order to provide a suitable solution for the proposed development. It should consider both technical and financial implications to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. MES have experience dealing with all types of schemes from individual dwellings to multi-million pound mixed use schemes.
